Shradh paksha, also known as Pitru Paksha, begins on September 20 and ends on October 6 this year, according to the Hindu calendar. Shradh is a ceremony done by offspring or relatives of deceased ancestors to ensure the soul’s tranquility. In this blog, we are going to discuss 20 THINGS NOT TO DO IN SHRADH
Our forefathers and mothers are very precious to us since our lives are built on the foundation of their sacrifice. Pitru Paksha is a unique time of year when Hindus honour their ancestors by completing a few rituals and abstaining from certain activities.
The souls of our ancestors are said to come to earth in the form of energies during Bhadrapada Maas, which lasts 16 days from Purnima to Amavasya.
Food, clothing, and gifts are given to Brahmin priests who assist in performing Shradh rites at this time. Cows, dogs, and birds are among the animals fed. Brahmins are the foremost servants of God in Hinduism, and they serve as the link between the ordinary man and the highest authority. They are an essential component of all religious rites and celebrations.
There is a well-known anecdote about feeding Brahmins: during his lifetime, the Mahabharata figure Kunti Putra Karna contributed a large sum of money as charity to impoverished and needy people, but he never gave them food.
Karna was granted numerous luxuries and worldly delights in paradise after his death, but he was not given any food. Karna recognised the problem and asked Yamraja to send him back to earth for 15 days to feed the Brahmins and the destitute.
Yamaraja granted his request and dispatched him to Earth for a period of two weeks. Karna was met with an abundance of food when he returned. It represents Brahmin bhoj, and feeding the impoverished is a beneficial practice for gaining afterlife fulfilment.
Pitru Paksha is the most fortunate period for our ancestors who have passed away. One of the methods of achieving Mukti, or salvation, is to keep them pleased via different good actions.
