Shradh paksha, also known as Pitru Paksha, begins on September 20 and ends on October 6 this year, according to the Hindu calendar. Shradh is a ceremony done by offspring or relatives of deceased ancestors to ensure the soul’s tranquility. In this blog, we are going to discuss 20 THINGS NOT TO DO IN SHRADH

Our forefathers and mothers are very precious to us since our lives are built on the foundation of their sacrifice. Pitru Paksha is a unique time of year when Hindus honour their ancestors by completing a few rituals and abstaining from certain activities.

The souls of our ancestors are said to come to earth in the form of energies during Bhadrapada Maas, which lasts 16 days from Purnima to Amavasya.

Food, clothing, and gifts are given to Brahmin priests who assist in performing Shradh rites at this time. Cows, dogs, and birds are among the animals fed. Brahmins are the foremost servants of God in Hinduism, and they serve as the link between the ordinary man and the highest authority. They are an essential component of all religious rites and celebrations.

There is a well-known anecdote about feeding Brahmins: during his lifetime, the Mahabharata figure Kunti Putra Karna contributed a large sum of money as charity to impoverished and needy people, but he never gave them food.

Karna was granted numerous luxuries and worldly delights in paradise after his death, but he was not given any food. Karna recognised the problem and asked Yamraja to send him back to earth for 15 days to feed the Brahmins and the destitute.

Yamaraja granted his request and dispatched him to Earth for a period of two weeks. Karna was met with an abundance of food when he returned. It represents Brahmin bhoj, and feeding the impoverished is a beneficial practice for gaining afterlife fulfilment.

Pitru Paksha is the most fortunate period for our ancestors who have passed away. One of the methods of achieving Mukti, or salvation, is to keep them pleased via different good actions.

20 THINGS NOT TO DO IN SHRADH :

1. Avoid consuming grains, non-vegetarian meals, garlic, onion, and outside food during Pitru Paksha. Eat only satvik cuisine prepared at home. Brinjal should not be cooked or eaten.

2. In Shradh cuisine, avoid using masoor, kali urad, chana, black jeera, black salt, black mustard, and any other unclean or stale food product.

3. It is not permissible for the person conducting Shradh rites to trim his nails.

4. He should not shave or trim his hair.

5. He should not dress in filthy clothing.

6. When conducting Shradh rites, he should avoid wearing leather items such as a belt, wallet, or shoes.

7. Never take a break from conducting Shradh rites and singing mantras to chat to someone. It has the potential to draw in bad energy.

8. During Shradh, addiction ruins your good acts and donations. People chew tobacco, smoke cigarettes, and drink alcohol on a regular basis. Don’t engage in such nefarious activities. It obstructs the positive outcome of Shradh karma.

9. Make no physical contact with others. Be in a state of celibacy.

10. Don’t speak falsehoods, curse people, or use harsh language.

11. If at all possible, avoid wearing slippers in the house for the whole 16-day period.

12. For Shradh pooja and rituals, avoid utilising black or crimson flowers, as well as flowers that are excessively fragrant or odourless.

13. It is also forbidden for the person conducting Shradh rites to eat often on the day of Shradh.

14. For ceremonies, avoid using iron containers. To satisfy your ancestors, use gold, silver, copper, or bronze utensils instead.

15. Iron should not be used in any form of seating. Seating made of silk, wool, wood, and other materials can be used.

16. During the Shradh time, don’t buy or wear new clothing.

17. During this fortnight, avoid moving into a new house, starting a new business or endeavour, or celebrating birthdays, among other things.

18. During this time, don’t bring home any new materialistic items, such as a new automobile.

19. It is not recommended to do Shradh Karma in the evening, night, morning, or dusk.

20. On Shradh day, do not wash your clothing.
