Union Minister Kiren Rijjiju has praised the Union Budget for 2024-25, calling it the strongest foundation for a self-reliant and developed India. He highlighted its focus on infrastructure development, employment generation, and support for eastern and northeastern India.
Rijjiju emphasized the budget’s provisions for infrastructure, with a record ₹11.11 lakh crore allocation for capital expenditure and ₹1.5 lakh crore in loans for state governments. He also stressed the importance of the budget’s focus on eastern India, especially the northeast, which he believes holds significant potential for economic growth.
The minister also pointed to the budget’s focus on job creation, especially for women and youth through startups, skilling, and training. Additionally, the budget includes support for farmers, small-scale industries, and MSMEs.
Addressing criticism from the opposition about the budget’s emphasis on Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, Rijjiju argued that these states were receiving support due to their economic potential and the BJP’s commitment to fulfilling past promises. He also defended the overall budget as equitable and beneficial for all states.
Rijjiju confidently stated that the opposition’s criticism of the budget highlights its strength and popularity among the people. He further asserted that India’s strong economic performance, recognized by global institutions, is a testament to the Modi government’s effective fiscal management.
Regarding his role as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Rijjiju acknowledged the challenges posed by the closely matched numbers in the Lok Sabha. He emphasized the importance of healthy debates and discussions in Parliament, while urging opposition parties to refrain from disrupting the proceedings.
