Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, dressed in a white silk saree with purple and gold accents, carried the traditional “bahi-khata” tablet containing the Union Budget 2024-25 to Parliament on Tuesday. This marks her seventh Budget presentation and the Modi government’s first Budget of their third term.
Sitharaman has consistently chosen Indian textiles and handloom sarees for her Budget presentations, showcasing her appreciation for local crafts. In past years, she has worn sarees from various regions of India, including a blue tussar silk saree with kantha handiwork in 2024, a red and black temple border saree with Kasuti threadwork in 2023, a rust brown Bomkai saree in 2022, a red and off-white silk Pochampally saree in 2021, a bright yellow-gold silk saree in 2020, and a simple pink Mangalgiri saree in 2019.
This year, she presented the Budget paperless, using a tablet instead of the traditional leather briefcase to carry the documents.
