Food delivery giants Zomato and Swiggy have raised their platform fees for the second time this year, increasing them from ₹5 to ₹6 per order, a 20% jump. This fee, separate from delivery charges, taxes, restaurant charges, and handling fees, is currently in effect in Delhi and Bengaluru but is expected to be implemented in other cities soon.

These companies claim the fee is necessary to manage operational costs and boost revenue. Zomato first introduced a platform fee of ₹2 in August 2022, raising it to ₹3 in an effort to improve profitability. In April of this year, Zomato increased the fee again to ₹5. With this recent hike, the platforms aim to generate a substantial daily revenue of ₹1.25-1.5 crore through these fees.
