The 16th of March is National Artichoke Hearts Day, a day to appreciate and eat these nutrient-dense plants. Artichokes are a Mediterranean delicacy and one of the world’s oldest foods, having been consumed by the Greeks and Romans as early as the eighth century! Today, we enjoy them boiled, baked, steamed, grilled, fried, and in a variety of other ways. 99.9% of the artichokes we buy in America are grown in California, and the artichoke is the official state vegetable! To get right to the point, we adore everything about this delectable veggie.
NATIONAL ARTICHOKE DAY ACTIVITIES
1. Every meal should include artichokes
Make an effort to include artichokes in each of your meals. Breakfast with an artichoke fritatta, lunch with a salad with marinated artichoke hearts, supper with a stuffed artichoke, and a snack with spinach and artichoke dip!
2. Organize a potluck with artichokes
Invite your pals over to eat artichokes! Make sure everyone brings a dish that incorporates the vegetables, and have some classics on hand as well. Artichoke dip, fried artichokes, marinated artichokes, steaming artichokes are some of our recommendations… Okay, we’ll suggest everything!
3. Cynar is a delicious cocktail
Cynar is an Italian liqueur created from 13 different herbs and plants, the most prominent of which is the artichoke! The liqueur’s name is derived from the Latin term for artichoke, Cynara scolymus. Cynar is an amaro that can be used as an aperitif, degestif, or cocktail ingredient. We like it served over ice with soda water or in a Negroni without the Campari. Arti-cheers!

2. Artichokes are stunning
Artichokes are the blooms of the artichoke plant, which explains their stunning appearance. Artichokes are a popular fabric design, and they look stunning in a bowl. Artichokes on the stem are also sold as cut flowers in some flower shops. They’ll bloom with beautiful purple blooms if you plant them in your garden.
3.Artichokes are a nutritious vegetable
Artichokes are one of the most antioxidant-rich vegetables, containing specific antioxidants associated to improved liver health and function, as well as cancer prevention. Artichokes are not only delicious, but they are also extremely beneficial to our health. Antioxidants and nutrients including vitamin C, folate, and magnesium are abundant in them. They’re a food that you can feel good about eating at any time of day.
