Following the tragic deaths of three civil service aspirants in a flooded basement coaching center, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken action against illegally operating coaching institutes. They have sealed the basements of seven coaching centers in Central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar and North West Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar.
This action includes prominent institutes like Dristi (The Vision), Vaji Ram and Ravi IAS hub, and SriRam IAS Institute. The MCD also demolished structures blocking storm drains in Old Rajinder Nagar to prevent future flooding.
In total, 20 basement coaching centers have been sealed in Rajendra Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar. The MCD commissioner stated that this crackdown will continue across the city.
The move has caused inconvenience for students preparing for civil service exams, as many libraries in coaching centers have been closed.
In addition to the sealing actions, the MCD has also taken disciplinary action against two employees from the maintenance department for failing to address waterlogging issues.
