Tomato prices in Delhi have skyrocketed to ₹100 per kg due to supply disruptions caused by extreme weather. This price is reflected in both Mother Dairy and Safal retail outlets. According to government data, the average tomato price in Delhi is ₹93 per kg, while the national average is ₹73.76 per kg.
A government official attributed the price surge to extreme heat and heavy rainfall disrupting tomato, potato, and onion supplies. Prices of these vegetables are also high in other cities.
In addition to tomatoes, other green vegetables like sponge gourd, bitter gourd, french beans, lady finger, tinda, green capsicum, brinjal, pointed gourd, bottle gourd, and arvi are also selling at elevated prices in Mother Dairy outlets. Unseasonal cauliflower is priced at ₹139 per kg at Safal stores.
