The Trump campaign has declined to commit to vice-presidential debate dates until after the Democratic National Convention, which begins on August 19th. They argue that they need to know who the Democratic vice-presidential nominee will be before agreeing to a debate.
The Trump campaign rejected Vice President Kamala Harris’s invitation for a debate between Senator JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, and Harris, claiming it would be unfair to other potential Democratic nominees.
The Biden-Harris campaign, however, criticized Trump for backing out of the debate, pointing out that Trump had previously said he would debate “anytime, anyplace.” They also alleged that Vance is avoiding the debate because of recent revelations about his support for a nationwide abortion ban.
