The Supreme Court heard petitions seeking a re-test or cancellation of the 2024 NEET-UG exam, raising concerns about the alleged leak of question papers. The Court questioned the NTA’s claim that the leak occurred only 45 minutes before the exam began in certain centers, finding the timeline improbable given the number of questions.
The Court expressed its concern about the “sanctity” of the exam, noting that it would only order a re-test if the leak affected the exam on a large scale. Petitioners argued for cancellation, alleging systemic failures and compromised transportation of question papers. The NTA, however, refuted these claims, stating that a robust security system was in place.
The Court questioned the use of a private courier company for transporting the exam papers, and further investigation is expected. The Court also highlighted the high number of perfect scores and the awarding of grace marks, which raised suspicions of malpractice. The government, however, maintained that there was no evidence of widespread cheating.
The Court adjourned the hearing until July 22 to further examine the evidence and decide on the fate of the exam.
