The Israeli military announced on Thursday that they had recovered the bodies of five people taken hostage by Hamas during their attack on southern Israel on October 7. These include Maya Goren, who was abducted during the attack, and four soldiers, Ravid Aryeh Katz, Oren Goldin, Tomer Ahimas, and Kiril Brodski, who were killed during the same attack. The bodies were retrieved in Khan Yunis, a major city in the southern Gaza Strip, on Wednesday.
The Israeli military had previously announced Goren’s death in December. Two kibbutzim, Nir Oz and Nir Yitzhak, independently confirmed that the army had recovered the bodies of Goren and Goldin.
The October 7 attack by Hamas resulted in the deaths of over 1,100 Israelis, mostly civilians, and the abduction of 251 people. Currently, 111 hostages remain in Gaza, including 39 who the military believes are dead. Israel’s subsequent military operations in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 39,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to the Gaza health ministry.
