Roberta Metsola, a Maltese politician, was re-elected as the President of the European Parliament with a resounding majority. She received 562 votes out of 720 in the first session of the new parliament in Strasbourg, France. This victory secures her position for the next two and a half years. Metsola represents the largest political group in the parliament.
