Elon Musk announced that Starlink, the affordable internet service, is now operational on over 1,000 aircraft. The company claims that passengers enjoy high-speed internet connectivity from the moment they board. Musk describes the experience as comparable to a high-speed ground fiber connection.
Starlink has expanded its reach to over 100 countries, including Sierra Leone, becoming the 10th African nation with access to the service. The company recently launched in Indonesia and Fiji. Starlink offers high-speed internet without requiring long-term contracts.
While Starlink has received preliminary approval to provide internet services in Sri Lanka, it is still awaiting approval from the Indian government. The Indian government is currently evaluating the commercial aspects of Starlink, including foreign investment and net worth, and examining its technical capabilities to ensure compliance with licensing requirements. Once approved, Starlink will receive a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license, which is necessary to provide satellite communication services in India.
