Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced new measures to curb VIP culture in the state. He has directed officials to serve only vegetarian and “Satvik” food at government events, with the exception of state guests. He has also instructed officials to keep government functions simple, with a limit of 10 cars in the motorcade for high-ranking officials.
Additionally, Mr. Sarma has declared that government officials will be responsible for paying their own electricity bills, starting in July 2024. He believes these changes will help to eliminate the privileged treatment often afforded to VIPs.
