The Akal Takht, the highest Sikh religious authority, has summoned Sukhbir Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), to explain allegations made by a group of rebel Akali leaders.
The rebels accused Badal of not representing the sentiments of the Sikh community and blamed him for several mistakes made during the party’s time in power, including failing to punish those responsible for sacrilege incidents and pardoning a controversial religious leader.
The Akal Takht also sought clarification from the SGPC regarding accusations of spending ₹ 90 lakh on advertisements.
Badal has been given 15 days to respond to the summons. The Akali Dal spokesperson stated that they will follow the Akal Takht’s instructions and everyone, including Badal, will appear before it.
