The Karnataka High Court has ordered Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa to request the magistrate for permission to receive home-cooked meals, bedding, clothing, and books while in prison. Darshan is accused of murdering his fan Renukaswamy.
The court has given Darshan’s lawyer until Saturday to submit the application. The magistrate will then make a decision by July 26. The hearing on Darshan’s petition was postponed to July 29.
The prosecution initially opposed the request, arguing that Darshan should first appeal to the prison authorities for home food and only approach the magistrate if denied. They also objected to the request for bedding and clothing, citing prison regulations for murder suspects, and expressed concerns about allowing home-cooked meals.
Darshan was arrested on June 11 for assaulting and allegedly murdering Renukaswamy. The alleged motive was Renukaswamy sending obscene messages to Darshan’s friend Pavithra Gowda on social media. Pavithra is also an accused in the case and is currently in jail.
