During a rally in Pennsylvania, a New York Times photographer, Doug Mills, captured a photo of a bullet flying past former President Donald Trump’s head during an assassination attempt. Mills, a veteran photographer with over 40 years of experience covering US presidents, was standing just feet away from Trump when the shots rang out.
The photo shows a white streak behind Trump’s head, representing the trajectory of the bullet. Mills, initially unaware of what he had captured, realized the significance when he reviewed his photos later. He described the chaotic scene, capturing the moments immediately following the attack, including Trump’s initial defiance and subsequent realization of the danger, evidenced by his paleness.
The assailant, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was apprehended by Secret Service snipers after firing multiple shots at Trump from a rooftop. Witnesses had alerted security about a suspicious individual moving between rooftops with a gun pointed towards the rally.
