A shocking case of electricity theft in the UK has garnered global attention, highlighting the severe consequences of such crimes.
An electrician in Fife, Scotland, named Leslie Pirie, stole electricity from his neighbors, diverting their supply to his own home. This resulted in exorbitant electricity bills for the victims, Hugh and Tracy Torrance, forcing their teenage daughter to work to help pay them.
Pirie, who admitted to stealing electricity over a three-year period, was ordered to repay the 4,000 pounds he stole in monthly installments.
The Torrances, who were unknowingly funding both their own and their neighbor’s electricity bills, are now seeking to evict Pirie from his house. The incident has strained the relationship between the neighbors, despite their proximity.
