Three men transporting cattle in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district died after jumping off a river bridge while being chased by a group of people. The police investigation found that the men were chased for over 50km in cars before they jumped off the bridge. No evidence of assault was found.
The chargesheet states that five accused individuals chased the truck carrying the cattle, attempting to stop it by throwing iron spikes and glass. The truck driver tried to escape, but the chase continued. Eventually, the truck stopped on the bridge after a tire was damaged by the obstacles. Fearing for their lives, the three men jumped off the bridge into the river.
One of the men died immediately, another died on the way to the hospital, and the third man died two weeks later due to injuries sustained from the fall.
The police have charged the five accused with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, based on the evidence suggesting their actions caused the men’s deaths.
