Rajya Sabha member Dorjee Tshering Lepcha from Sikkim has requested the Indian government to officially rename the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China to the “Tibet border.” He argued that the 1,400 km border, stretching from Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh to Sikkim, primarily borders Tibet rather than China itself.
He advocated for government agencies to use “Tibet border” officially, and urged a review of the policy that has limited access to areas near the border, while China has built villages in the same region. He also called for reopening the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra route via Nathula.
