Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud presided over a Lok Adalat, a unique occasion where he shared the bench with senior Supreme Court advocate Kapil Sibal. This event, along with the participation of other judges and legal professionals, aimed to resolve smaller cases more efficiently.
The Chief Justice highlighted a case where a husband and wife, involved in divorce and maintenance proceedings, reconciled during a pre-Lok Adalat session. He emphasized the importance of Lok Adalats in handling minor cases like service, labor disputes, land acquisition, and motor accident claims.
Sibal, acknowledging the significance of the occasion, stated that this was his first time on the bench side. He praised the Supreme Court’s initiative in establishing Lok Adalats and commended the live streaming of court proceedings.
Judges from various Supreme Court benches participated in the Lok Adalats, each bench consisting of judges, senior advocates, and other legal professionals. The involvement of these individuals underscores the collaborative effort to provide accessible and efficient justice for common people.
