On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, families of soldiers remembered the bravery of their loved ones and paid tribute to those who died in the 1999 war.
Subedar Major (Retd.) Yogendra Singh Yadav, a Param Vir Chakra awardee, said the nation is proud of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives. He added that the memorial at Drass served as a place to honor those brave soldiers.
Subedar Major RT Rais Ahmed, who joined the Indian Army in 1997, expressed his respect for the soldiers who gave their lives for the country. He emphasized the Army’s growth and strength, highlighting the sacrifices of the soldiers.
Veteran Chief Petty Officer Radio IND Navy Anant Joshi stated the importance of the 25th anniversary, remembering the 527 soldiers who lost their lives for the nation. He stressed that today’s generation should learn from these sacrifices.
Eshanika, daughter of an Army officer, expressed her admiration for Prime Minister Modi, seeing him as a role model and praising his efforts as Prime Minister.
Tashi Namgyal, the man who first spotted Pakistani intruders, recounted his experience of reporting the intrusion to the forces, leading to the start of the war.
Security was heightened in Kargil ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the Kargil War Memorial on the 25th anniversary.
Prime Minister Modi will visit the memorial and pay tribute to the soldiers. He will also virtually initiate the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated annually on July 26, commemorates the success of Operation Vijay, where Indian forces successfully recaptured strategic positions in Kargil, which were infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers and terrorists.
