CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm, experienced a major software failure that affected millions of Windows-based computers worldwide, leading to disruptions in various services including airlines, broadcasters, and healthcare providers. The company apologized for the inconvenience caused by the “blue screen of death” error, which cost Fortune 500 firms significant financial losses.

To compensate contractors for the extra workload resulting from the failure, CrowdStrike offered them $10 Uber Eats gift cards. However, many recipients reported that the codes were quickly disabled, with some receiving vouchers worth only 7.75 pounds. CrowdStrike clarified that the vouchers were intended for contractors, not customers, and were flagged as fraudulent by Uber due to high usage rates.

The company attributed the outage to a bug in its test software that allowed a faulty update to pass validation.
