A Seattle police officer, Daniel Auderer, has been fired for making insensitive and callous comments about the death of Jaahnavi Kandula, a 23-year-old Indian student. Kandula was killed in a traffic accident when she was struck by a police vehicle driven by Officer Kevin Dave, who was speeding at 74 mph.
Bodycam footage revealed that Auderer laughed and made light of the incident, describing how Kandula was thrown from the vehicle after being hit.
Seattle Police Interim Chief Sue Rahr condemned Auderer’s actions, stating that his behavior brought shame to the department and made it harder for officers to do their jobs. She emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust and said that firing Auderer was necessary to uphold the department’s high standards.
